Jul 30-31, 2016---------2016 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship,
"I wanted to stay in touch and first let you, and the NFHS, know how well last year's U.S. High School Bowling National Championship went. Here are just some of the results from the 2016 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship that took place in Tamarac, Florida on July 30-31, 2016.
There were several interesting stories from last year's tournament. For starters, both boys and girls Singles Champions came from Kentucky. The boys Singles champion, McKinley Knopp, was an 18 year-old graduated senior on his way to college, while the girls Singles champion, Emma Owens, was 14 years of age and was an incoming sophomore. Both Team Champions, Apopka HS boys and Circle Christian girls, came from Florida and were each the reigning Florida (FHSAA) State boys and girls team champions. Here are links to the 2016 Champions with their National Championship rings:

2016 Boys & Girls SINGLES Champions - http://www.ushsbf.org/2016boys&girlssingleschampionrings.pdf
But what might be the most interesting story from within the '16 National Championship came from the Boys National Runner-Up Team -- Rio Rancho HS -- the reigning New Mexico state champions. The Rio Rancho HS boys team were actually a "unified" team that had two girls on their boys team... and both girls played throughout the '16 National Championship. When do you see a National Championship final game or final match in any sport that has women competing equally, side by side, with their male teammates in a boys or men's division?
There were 39 new State records set from the bowlers who participated in this inaugural high school bowling national championship. There is a red hash tag after 2016# in the Florida, Texas, New Mexico and Wisconsin state record pages indicating that the particular record was performed at 'Nationals’. There were three 300 games, four 299s, one 296, and one 800 series (first-ever 800 in Wisconsin HS bowling). All 300 games and 800 series have been added to the National 300/800 Honor Roll http://ushsbf.org/300800honorroll.html
Feedback from the bowlers, their coaches and parents, both during and after the '16 National Championships has been overwhelmingly positive. Everyone immediately were talking about their excitement to compete in next year’s national championship in Nashville, Tennessee.

The 2017 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship will take place just outside of Nashville in Smyrna, Tennessee on June 24-25, 2017 at Smyrna Bowling Center. The field has been expanded to fit 520 bowlers (260 boys / 260 girls max) and a maximum of 52 boys and 52 girls and teams. We anticipate bowlers from approximately 15 different States will be represented in the ’17 National Championship.
Welcome letter from the Mayor of Smyrna, TN - http://ushsbf.org/welcome_letter_smyrna_mayor_reed_2017.pdf
I would like to extend an invitation to the NFHS to sanction the 2017 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship. If that is not possible at this time, I would like to invite the NFHS to consider national championship sanctioning in 2018... and beyond.
Please feel free to contact me anytime regarding the '17 National Championship and/or for any other reason.
